Personal Work
I feel a deep nostalgia for the present; As a Highly Sensitive Person (someone who takes in more information and processes it on a deeper level), I think very profoundly about relationships, space & place, and the everyday. A feeling I often encounter is realizing how fleeting a moment is while I am still in it. To me, small snapshots of time such as shared words, music, and photos hold a much greater significance than what meets the eye.
My work revolves around these personal experiences and creating meaning through the action of making. I combine images from my own take and found phrases to explore how we make and keep memories, perspective, and the passing of time. My studio practice utilizes a variety of 2D processes including painting, printmaking, collage, photography and text. The dreamlike state that euphoria is as an HSP contrasted with the realism of a photo and rawness of emotion is something I always find myself drawn to. What begins as just an image is transformed through the artmaking process so the viewer can understand visuals as objects and feel those deep feelings with me and alongside each other.
In this work I strive to turn what is personal and vulnerable into something ambiguous and relatable to many; representing the intense love, appreciation, and sadness I get to encounter in day to day life.
